meh! nigerian movie: DEADLY ROMANCE

First thoughts 

Even though I don’t particularly think that any of the romance in this film was deadly, I respect the attempt at a thriller movie. There was mystery and it was kind of fun trying to figure things out.

Full Story

Chucks is a bum. He is married to Cindy and he lives with his brother, Tony whom he seems to forget is his brother. (No, like for real. Half of the time you will hear Chucks scream “Tony how could you do this to me your friend” then he would realise himself midway and say “Tony I’m your brother”. I honestly think that was Benjamin fucking up his lines and the director didn’t care enough to do a second take.)

Tony is wealthy, and he is married to Inem. Inem is a nice lady who means well, but Cindy for some reason hates her. 

Tony offers Chucks a small job in his company and the pay is nothing to write home about. It is so small, Chucks can’t afford to rent even a face-me-I-face-you one room flat. Not to mention taking care of his pregnant wife Cindy. 

Randomly, Cindy has a nightmare where Inem tries to kill her for sleeping with Tony. 

(mmmmm-hmm. Putting that in there and pretending it ain’t a thing like we’re dumb and not going to catch it)

Chucks and Tony are out drinking in a bar when some girl, Lilian, comes in calling Tony “honey” and kissing him. Chucks is shocked and reminds Tony that he is a married man but Tony threatens him. One word of this to his wife and Chucks would lose his job.

Chucks keeps his mouth shut because he doesn’t job or a house to stay. He broke broke.

Chucks is told to go to Port Harcourt for some meeting/deal. On the day of his departure, his car didn’t start, so Inem offers him a ride. 

However, on their way, Inem remembers she forgot her purse and he remembers he forgot his driver’s licence. So Chucks goes back into the house to get them.

He enters the house, goes to Inem’s room and there he catches Cindy on top of Tony about to yeehaw her way to pound town. 

He is shocked and confused but Cindy gaslights the fuck out of him and Chucks being so dumb, he believes her. 

Inem, on the other hand, packs her bags to leave and Tony couldn’t give a fuck. Like he was prancing about and spreading his cheeks like a peacock. 

Also, we discover a little detail about Tony’s house. There is 24-hour surveillance in every room and crevice in that house. Not only that, somebody sits in the control room watching their every move. 

(before I go further, I did figure out who was behind it. If you watch the film, it was pretty obvious who the “big brother” character was) 

With Inem gone and Chucks always busy and going to work, Tony and Cindy became more brazen in their adultery. Once Chucks leave for work, they are in coitus till he gets back. 

One time, he almost caught them but they outsmarted him. 

Lilian moves into the house, announcing herself as Tony’s fiancee which aggravates Cindy. The two of them constantly get into fights over Tony with Cindy beating the living daylights of Lilian every time. 

Inem collects what she needs to and leaves. Chucks returns and finds information relating to Cindy’s pregnancy. She was pregnant before getting married to Chucks. Chucks and her did the celibacy thing before marriage. So while Chucks was dying from konji, hanty Cindhee was bussing it wide open for Toenail.

Chucks confronts Tony and Tony couldn’t give a fuck. Tony never gives a fuck. You could drop dead right in front of him and he would just be there smoking his cigarette. 

Chucks is heartbroken and goes to the bar to drink. On his way back from the bar, he stops by a pharmacy to buy Sniper rat poison. He also gives a man in need of cash some money.

Then he goes home to off himself. However, just before he is about to drink the poison, the gateman, Ugo rushes in to save him. 

Ugo then takes him to the control room and it is revealed that the people who have been watching the house through the surveillance cameras are Inem and Ugo. 

Ugo bugged the house with mics and cameras while Inem watched it closely, making plans. 

They reveal their plans to Chucks and he is on board with it. They also tell him how Tony has worked tirelessly to render Chucks useless. From stealing his lottery ticket which he won millions but Tony claimed to getting Chucks fired from his previous well-paying job. 

INEM returns to the house with some divorce papers. She tells Lilian and Lilian helps her give them to a drunk Tony to sign. Tony sings all the papers. Unknown to Tony, the papers are a combination of divorce papers and signing away his wealth to Chucks’ papers.

Days later, Tony’s third woman comes to claim her spot in the house. Lilian and Cindy are upset. They beat the new woman up and she runs away. Then Lilian and Cindy fight again this time Cindy is beaten into a concussion. 

She is rushed to the hospital. Chucks and Inem arrive during the chaos to reveal what they have done to Tony. They also arrest him for murder, same with Lilian for almost killing Cindy. 

Ultimately, Chucks and Inem end up together while Cindy ends up as a bar waitress – broke, single and miserable.

I give it 📹📹📹📹

Like I said earlier, I respect this movie. It was nice taking a breather from romance and watching a thriller. It could have been better but C for Effort.
