Full Story

HAPPY ENDING is as told by Kambili, a writer who just lost her job. For some reason, her former boss had blacklisted her from the industry and Kambili had resolved to relocate from Abuja to another city. That was her plan but her friends, Zirachi and Erinma didn’t want her to so they encouraged her to give Abuja one more chance. 

To lift Kambili’s spirit, they go shopping for clothes and in the boutique, they meet the owner, Zeeney who happens to be an old acquaintance from school. Zeeney is bossy, and snobbish and doesn’t seem to remember anybody’s name. 

Zeeney sees them and gloats. She talks about how successful she is and how she is currently in search of a writer. After she is done bragging, she leaves. The girls continue to shop, and when they’re done, they return home. 

Erinma and Zirachi encourage Kambili to apply to become Zeeney’s writer but Kambili refuses, saying that Zeeney and her don’t get along. 

Zirachi, in good faith, goes back to the boutique to meet Zeeney. There she makes a case for Kambili reminding Zeeney that Kambili is the reason why she graduated Uni. Kambili helped Zeeney write a story which gave Zeeney a high grade and acclaim. 

Zeeney refuses to hire Kambili and makes it known to Zirachi because Kambili slept with a guy she liked when they were in school. Zirachi defends Kambili stating that Zeeney never told them she liked the boy.

Eventually, after much back and forth, Zeeney gives Zirachi her card and asks her to tell Kambili to call her. 

Erinma, Kambili and Zirachi attend a friend’s all-white birthday party. After all the celebrations, Kambili stands up to leave but Zirachi tries to spice up the party by asking that they do truth or dare. Kambili isn’t interested, she leaves and her friends chase after her. 

When they get out, Erinma’s boyfriend is outside waiting for them, so Erinma and Zirachi go with him while Kambili enters her Uber. 

As Kambili approaches her home, it is raining heavily and a guy is stuck in front of her house. He locked his car keys inside his vehicle and couldn’t move. She pays her rider and offers the guy shelter in her apartment.

While inside, he takes off his shirt and she is mesmerised. One thing leads to the other and they 

The next morning, Kambili is smiling and wishing the guy would be hers but his phone rings and the name that pops up is “My Baby”. Immediately she is pissed off. She wakes him up and forces him to leave her house and go be with his girlfriend. He tries to talk about what happened and do an introduction. He says his name is Chetachi but Kambili doesn’t tell him her name.

Later on, Kambili tells her friends about her encounter with the guy and they are impressed by her guts. They also notice that Erinma is in pain, her cheek is swollen. Erinma says she fought with her neighbour. 

Kambili finally visits Zeeney concerning the writer’s job. Zeeney needs a writer but her hatred for Kambili is too much to ignore while Kambili needs a job but her pride won’t let her beg for it. 

They go back and forth until Zeeney finally agrees to give her the job. Zeeney’s boyfriend walks in and it is Chetachi. Kambili is flustered while Chetachi is gobsmacked but they act like they don’t know each other. 

Zeeney makes them work together, which starts a series of events leading to Kambili and Chetachi getting closer. They eventually sleep with each other again on her birthday after Chetachi displays jealousy because of the man Zirachi sets Kambili up with. 

Zirachi on the other hand is in a relationship with a 24-year-old man, Levi. For context, she is 32 and she is ashamed of him. She is ashamed of dating a man who is almost a decade younger than her. Levi is so enamoured by her that he takes her constant maltreatment till he has had enough at Kambili’s birthday.

At Kambili’s birthday, Zirachi invites a guy to the party to match him with Kambili. Chetachi gets jealous, throwing shade and insults at the guy. The environment is tense which makes Erinma mistakenly step on her boyfriend and he slaps her. Zirachi intervenes and slaps Erinma’s boyfriend. He tries to retaliate but Levi intercepts and warns him not to touch his woman. 

That whole exchange embarrasses Zirachi and she breaks up with Levi who also dumps her. However, he later has to call Zirachi to inform her of what happened to Erinma. Erinma was beaten by her boyfriend and left for dead on the road. Levi saw her on his way home and rushed her to the hospital. 

In the end, Chetachi and Kambili become a couple and business partners. Zeeney makes a deal to work with them as partners – not her employees. Erinma is free from her abusive boyfriend who is now in jail and has a possible lovematch with the guy Zirachi wanted to match with Kambili. 

Zirachi begs Levi for forgiveness and now proudly calls herself his woman.

I get what they were going for and I appreciate that the story involved an ensemble cast. But, I didn’t enjoy the movie. You guys might though. It seems like the kind of chill movie people would enjoy..
