Full Story

Ukachi just arrived in the city and she is looking for Johnson Street. From her first encounter with a passerby, she appears to be unrefined and uncouth.

She is able to locate the place she is going to and it is revealed to be her aunty, Aunty Celestina’s place. 

Aunty Celestina lives in a self-contained flat on the rough side of town. She also doesn’t like to be called Aunty Celestina: she prefers Madam Sugar. Oh, and she is a prostitute. 

Ukachi is taken aback by how small and rough Madam Sugar is living because Madam Sugar often visits the village, bragging about how rich she is. 

Madam Sugar tells Ukachi that her home is her little paradise but Ukachi being uncouth as ever doesn’t think so and makes it known.

Madam Sugar brought Ukachi to the city in the hopes that she could capitalise on Ukachi’s youth, skin colour and curves to make money as a call girl but Ukachi is against it. She is not interested in prostitution. 

After several attempts to initiate Ukachi fails, Madam Sugar throws Ukachi out of her home in the middle of the night. While sitting down, in the dark outside on some street corner; some bad boys try to rob Ukachi.

They ransacked her bags but couldn’t find anything valuable. So in order not to leave without something, they decide to kidnap her. 

Michael, driving past them sees what’s happening and comes down to save her. While fighting them, the boys one of them hit Michael on the head with a brick. Michael falls to the ground and the boys run away. 

Ukachi and Michael’s girlfriend, Cynthia rush him to the hospital. After he is discharged and taken back home, Cynthia orders Ukachi to leave, as she is the cause of Michael’s current predicament but Ukachi refuses. She states that she won’t leave until she thanks Michael for saving her life. 

Michael hears the commotion downstairs and goes down to check. There he sees Ukachi and Cynthia almost coming to blows. Ukachi apologises and then kneels to thank Michael for saving her life. 

They get talking and he finds out that she is homeless. Michael then offers to rent a flat for her to stay but Cynthia is pissed. She starts insinuating that Ukachi is Michael’s side chick.

The accusation annoys Michael, so he gets back at her by making Ukachi live with him instead. Ukachi also becomes his maid.

Now, Michael is a womaniser. He became one after Cynthia cheated on him several times. Even though they “reconciled”, he just couldn’t bring himself to forgive her. 

Michael brings home, different women every night and this irritates Ukachi. One time, one of his numerous girlfriends comes visiting and she is supposed to wait for Michael till he gets back from work.

Ukachi sends her away, stating that she would only allow the lady in if Michael calls and says so. Michael returns from work and is annoyed that Ukachi sent his girl away. 

Ukachi then starts ranting

“I no just understand you. All these girls go just dey collect all the sugar wey dey for your body. I know even know if e still sweet again sef. Wetin your wife go con collect when you mally am now? All the sugar, dem don squeeze am, dey squeeze am like sugarcane. Dey drink am. E no go now. I no know how you dey get strength sef. Some go dey shout, some no go dey shout.”

Hearing this, Michael asks “you want to know if it’s still sweet, ehn?” and pulls her closer. Ukachi pouts, waiting to be kissed by Michael leaves her hanging. 

Michael finally summons the courage to break up with Cynthia and she doesn’t take it well. She accosts Ukachi on her way back from the market and tries to kidnap Ukachi. 

Ukachi kicks the men and runs away. When she gets home, she tells Michael what happened and he angrily leaves the house to confront Cynthia.

When he returns, however, something in him changes. He looks at Ukachi differently which makes her feel self-conscious. He goes to his room and tries to sleep but can’t. So he returns downstairs, grabs Ukachi’s face and kisses her. 

She kisses him back and they become a thing.

There were some funny moments. It was alright.
