JUMIA ANNIVERSARY

Hire A Woman is the sequel to the 2017 film – Hire A Man and no, he did not fall in love with the woman.

In case you have neither watched nor read the review on the prequel – Hire A Man – click here (https://www.nollywoodreinvented.com/2017/11/hire-a-man.html) for Nollywood ReInvented review on it.

The Plot

The Plot

Jide hires his best friend and co-worker, Teni to pose as his girlfriend to, amongst other things, make his ex, Toyosi, jealous.

The Characters

Nancy Isime reprises her role as Teni from the first movie. In this sequel, she is Jide’s best friend and co-worker.

Uzor Arukwe as Jide, the nerdy guy who is still stuck on his ex – Toyosi.

Uche Nwaefuna played Jide’s hot ex-girlfriend, Toyosi, who dumped him for the hottest guy in school after graduation.

Other characters were:

Alexx Ekubo as Emeka, the lecherous one among Jide’s Uni friends.

Mike Godson as Nate, the sensible and successful one who is very much in love and engaged to his girlfriend – Jane.

Ifu Ennada as Jane, Nate’s fiancee.

Erica Ngozi Nlewedin as Nifemi, the bubbly travel agent friend who planned the retreat and also nurses a secret.

Belinda Effah as Zainab, Teni and Jide’s best friend and co-worker. She was the one who came up with the idea for Jide’s “makeover”.

The Theme of the Movie

The best way to get over an ex is to get on with a new person. For six years, six freaking years, Jide was stuck on Toyosi. But just after three days of the retreat, he is like a new man. Born again, ready to take on the world like Superman.

The Flaws

Nat and Jane – the most useless characters of the bunch. I still don’t know what purpose they served in the movie, other than being the reason for the retreat which honestly could have happened without them.

The actions – there was this scene where there were having dinner and Teni kept elbowing Jide to keep his composure. That scene would have been 10 times funnier if she was hitting him under the table. That above-the-table action was very uncomfortable to watch.

The dialogue – First was the scene at the bar where Emeka is teasing Teni and Jide about them “unpacking the load”, Teni gets uncomfortable and leaves to go meet the girls after which Emeka makes a snide comment, telling her to come back and listen.

What was that about?

Second, was when Emeka was telling Jide and Nifemi about his sexual conquests the night before which irritates them and they leave. After they are gone, Emeka is like “come back now, come and hear gist. Nonsense.”

WTF? Why is Emeka insulting people for no reason? Why does it seem like he is accusing people of being nosy when he is the one volunteering the information?

Lastly, the first video call Zainab and Teni had, the conversation was so off. Belinda Effah’s acting looked very fake. It was like she and Nancy weren’t facetiming for reals. It seemed like two independent scenes joined together to create a disjointed dialogue.

The Positives

Jide’s love story – I liked how his love for his new girl grew. They showed how they bonded. That was good.

Uzor, Nancy and Erica – Uzor needs to be in more movies. Dude can act. Nancy was funny as hell. Her interaction with Uzor and Belinda were so real. Even her facial expressions.

Erica, never seen her in anything previously, but I loved her acting. She was really good.

My verdict

I give it a 2 out of 5. Uzor and Nancy carried this movie on their backs. Take them out and there would have been no movie.

The movie had extremely poor sound engineering. The audio levels were so bad that at times it would distort and then could hardly hear at other times. How a movie with such a decent story and acting can be produced with such poor audio quality is mind numbing.
You really may want to study the US or most western movie productions for great audio and/or videography.
I am not questioning your talent, but just sounding off my honest criticism in extremely good faith. Do not waste your talent and passion by contributing to sub-standard productions.
    All the best..
